The Soul of Gypsy Son: Meet the Women Who Bring It to Life
LOREN MUSIC 🇨🇴
A Voice Weaving Worlds Between Flamenco and the Tropics.
Origins: Roots in the Antioquian Mountains
Born in the green mountains of Antioquia, Colombia, Loren grew up surrounded by a unique soundscape: the whisper of bambucos and the rhythmic strumming of guitars drifting through the spring breeze of Medellín—a city that gifted her with her first love for music.
At 18, she chose to follow her calling and enrolled in classical voice studies at the University of Antioquia, where she mastered opera and zarzuela. But her free spirit soon pulled her beyond the boundaries of classical scores. She discovered flamenco in the clandestine tablaos of her city, where the duende of cante jondo stirred her soul.
The Awakening: From Local Flamenco to Global Fusion
Before crossing borders, Loren was already an emerging figure in Medellín’s flamenco scene. She took part in innovative productions that blended bulerías, sevillanas, rumbas, tangos, and Portuguese fado. Her thirst for exploration led her on national tours, where she discovered the richness of Caribbean rhythms.
In 2018, she made a bold move: she relocated to New York, where she immersed her voice in the city’s multicultural melting pot. In Manhattan, she collaborated with jazz musicians, Afro-Latin percussionists, and electronic producers, incorporating claves from Cuba, bachata grooves, and urban beats into her repertoire.
